Nine area teams appear in Sept. 18 Media Poll

Nine Greenville and Spartanburg area teams were ranked in this week’s South Carolina Prep Football Media Poll, released Monday afternoon.
Hillcrest was the highest-ranked local team. The 5-0 Rams sit at No. 2 in the 5A poll, just ahead of Byrnes. Gaffney is No. 5 in 5A, with Spartanburg No. 7. Boiling Springs and J.L. Mann were among teams receiving votes.
Summerville is ranked No. 1 in 5A, receiving all 23 first-place votes.
Greenville is No. 10 in the 4A poll. South Florence leads 4A, followed by Northwestern, Irmo, James Island, and Hartsville.
Chapman is the highest-ranked 3A team at No. 5. The Panthers trail Daniel, Belton-Honea Path, Dillon, and Gilbert. Broome comes in at No. 9 in the 3A poll.
No area 2A teams appeared in the rankings, but Landrum is listed among those receiving votes.
In the 1A poll, St. Joseph’s is at No. 2, trailing No. 1 Lewisville. Christ Church is ranked No. 4, and Southside Christian is listed as receiving votes.
